Your website is up and ready and has been uploaded for some time. But then you check it every day and the hits just do not seem to be going in, in fact it is a mere trickle of what you expect. Perhaps now you have decided to do some search engine optimization to solve the problem.

Plenty of engine optimization professionals are out there to make searches hit your site. Some offer their services at very expensive rates. However, with a few hours research and trial and error, one can actually do this on their own.

In optimizing your webpage on your own first you must begin with content keywords. Use plenty of keywords that you feel people search for regarding your niche and use it wherever possible. Even though your site already has meta tags, this is not a guarantee that you will be ranked high in the list. Keywords, pun aside, are the key.

Search engines also require the use of site maps. Once your website has a text based site map for all its links and web pages within, it will have an easier time to index them and find them. A good site map is also a key to getting high rankings.

Another tip for getting better optimization is to try and lessen the use of Flash and Flash animation in your website. Although Flash is great in terms of its capabilities in providing animation to curb boredom in your website, the embedded the within a flash page cannot be read. The inability of words to be read from your site can hurt your rankings even further.

And finally try to get inbound links to the site you have. Links coming from higher ranked sites generate great traffic. Likewise your posts on forums and blogs, with the sufficient content and keyword rich articles and back links will be of tremendous help. All in all search engine optimization can be done by you without using too much outside help and cost.
